Artist Bio:
MICHAEL THOMAS JR.
Mike Thomas Jr. is a contemporary Navajo (Diné) silversmith whose career has spanned several decades, solidifying his place as a highly respected figure in southwestern Native American jewelry. Unlike artists who heavily document their personal lives, Thomas has let his meticulous handiwork speak for his biography. His professional career took root during the 1970s and 1980s, a golden era for the revival and appreciation of traditional Native American jewelry. He continues to actively handcraft collector-grade pieces. Operating primarily within the Southwest, he mastered the complex Navajo techniques of heavy stampwork, leaf work, and intricate silver wire framing.
