The Gordon Collection has a wide variety of handmade pottery.  We primarily collect Santa Clara, San Ildefonso, Hopi and Acoma styles.  

Santa Clara and San Ildefonso pueblos are located in New Mexico.  Their pottery is known for either blackware or redware with heavy carving/engraving and glossy finish.  The potters use a process referred to as reduction firing to create their pottery. 

The Hopi pueblo is located in Northern Arizona.  Their pottery is hand constructed using hand coil and scrape techniques then hand painted with naturally occurring materials. Typically cream colored with at least three colors on a polished background. 

The Acoma pueblo is located in New Mexico.  Their pottery is known for thin walls, almost white appearance and intricate often geometric designs.  Fired above ground in a bee hive like kiln.
